“When I started law school, and I envisioned working at a law firm, Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. was exactly what I was looking for” – Chris, Extern

My name is Chris Lease, and I’m a 3L at New York Law School. This semester, I’ve been working in the transactional department at Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C., and the experience has been nothing short of amazing.

When I first started, I hoped to work in litigation, but during my interview, I mentioned I was open to either side. When I was placed in the transactional department, I was a little nervous because I didn’t have much experience in transactions. However, I quickly learned the ins and outs of how deals are done, thanks to the incredible support from my colleagues. Rosemary was an amazing mentor, and the paralegals were equally fantastic. They all made the learning process seamless and enjoyable.

My day-to-day responsibilities varied depending on the work we had scheduled. Some days, I would attend closings, while other days, I focused on drafting UCC-1s, UCC-3s, and other transaction-related documents. A significant portion of my time this semester was also spent working on a 1099 filing deadline, which involved accounting work—something I had never done before but found incredibly interesting. The variety of tasks kept the work engaging and made coming to the office each day exciting.

Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. embodies everything I hoped for when I envisioned working at a law firm. The environment is demanding in the best way, with everyone striving for excellence while remaining incredibly supportive. When I started, I didn’t know much about transactions, particularly banking deals, which I spent most of my time on. Within two weeks, I felt confident in my ability to handle these deals, thanks to the constant guidance I received from Rosemary and the transactional team.

One of the things I appreciate most about the firm is the culture of respect and collaboration. Whether you’re a partner, associate, extern, or paralegal, everyone is valued equally. That sense of inclusion made it easy to come to work every day and contribute my best.

Working with Adam himself was truly inspiring. I’ve never met someone with such a consistent passion for their work. Whether he was calling a client to discuss a minor issue, like a parking dispute, or handling a major deal, Adam gave 110% to every task. His dedication set the tone for the entire office, and it was clear that everyone else followed his lead.

For anyone considering working at Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C., my advice is simple: do it. Apply and take full advantage of the invaluable experience this firm offers. Be open to learning and willing to take on challenges outside of your comfort zone. For example, while I primarily worked in the transactional department, I occasionally received emails from litigation asking for assistance. I always jumped at the opportunity, knowing that diversifying my experience would make me a better attorney.

One specific instance that stands out was when I had the chance to attend a closing out on Long Island. Although I was told I didn’t have to go because it was far, I immediately said yes. That day ended up being one of my favorite experiences at the firm. It allowed me to see a closing in a new environment and connect with professionals from across the region.

In conclusion, my time at Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve learned so much, gained confidence in areas I was initially unfamiliar with, and had the privilege of working with an exceptional team. This experience will stay with me for the rest of my career.
