“This is honestly a place that I really learned the inner workings of the legal field” – Kailyn, High School Intern

Kailyn: Hi, my name is Kailyn. I just graduated from Horace Mann High School, and I’m heading to Tufts University on the 24th of this month. I’m a summer intern here at Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C.

Interviewer: What kind of work have you been doing during your internship?

Kailyn: I work alongside the other interns, and we handle a variety of tasks depending on what’s passed down to us. I’ve helped with things the Chief of Staff needed, assisted attorneys by reviewing case files to find relevant details, and worked on organizational projects.

Sometimes, I help the marketing team by going through folders or even assisting with interviews like this one. It really varies by day. I’m always happy to help with whatever tasks come my way.

Interviewer: Do you have a favorite day or moment from the internship?

Kailyn: One of my favorite days was definitely the day of the firm’s boat party. That day was packed with exciting tasks—we attended some meetings with Adam, including one with the Assistant Attorney General, where we got to see Adam in action.

Later, all three interns went on a little adventure delivering mail around the city. It was fun to explore and handle different tasks. The day ended with the boat party, which was such a great experience. It gave me the chance to connect with people at the firm I hadn’t met before, including remote workers.

Interviewer: How would you describe Adam Leitman Bailey as a boss?

Kailyn: Adam is honestly one of the best bosses I’ve ever had. He’s so open to sharing his knowledge and wisdom. Whenever we accompany him to court proceedings or meetings, he explains what’s happening, why he’s approaching a case in a particular way, and the strategies he uses to get the best outcome for his clients.

During my first week here, Adam had a proceeding with a judge, and he invited me to sit in, take notes, and even introduced me to the judge. She then invited me to visit her courthouse to see a live proceeding. It’s amazing how open Adam is—his willingness to give us these opportunities has made this internship incredibly rewarding.

Interviewer: What’s your impression of the work environment here?

Kailyn: The environment here is incredible. From the day I interviewed, I could tell how kind and genuine everyone is. During my interview, Cleveland and Marina were so welcoming, and even Adam’s son was there playing with Ally—it all felt very natural and friendly.

Since starting here, that same warmth has continued. Everyone goes out of their way to introduce themselves and answer questions. Even though we’re just interns here for a few months, they treat us with kindness and respect. It’s refreshing to work somewhere where people genuinely care about you.

Interviewer: What are your career goals, and how has this internship influenced them?

Kailyn: I’m really interested in becoming a criminal attorney, specifically working on cases involving wrongful convictions. Over the last three years of high school, I’ve been exploring different areas of law to get a better understanding before committing to one specific career.

Last summer, I interned with a judge, which gave me a lot of insight into court proceedings and how lawyers argue their cases. This internship, however, has been eye-opening in a different way. It’s shown me the behind-the-scenes work—the layers of effort that go into building cases before they ever reach the courtroom. It’s been fascinating and has deepened my appreciation for the legal field.

Interviewer: Would you recommend this internship to others?

Kailyn: Absolutely, 100%! This internship has been an incredible opportunity to learn about the inner workings of the legal field. Even compared to shadowing a judge last summer, I’ve learned so much more about the preparation and collaboration that happens behind the scenes. It’s a great place to grow and gain real-world experience.
