“This is a great place to learn, and even if you fail, […] you still learn and it will only better you in your career as an attorney” – Zoe
My name is Zoe, and I’m a 3L at Hofstra Law. I’m currently a legal extern in the transactional department at Adam Leitman Bailey PC. My day-to-day tasks at the firm vary depending on what’s going on, but my assignments this semester have included lease reviews, trust reviews, preparing purchase agreements, closing documents, title and lien searches, as well as legal research.
My supervisor is Rosemary, who is the head of the transactional department. She has been an incredible mentor and supervisor throughout this externship. Her door is always open whenever I need help or have a question, and she consistently provides me with feedback on my assignments, which helps me improve my work.
Everyone at the firm has been so friendly and helpful. There’s a real sense that everyone cares about each other, which creates a great working environment. At the same time, everyone is incredibly hardworking, and you can see that by how often they’re in their offices.
Adam has been a great boss throughout my entire externship. I’ve really enjoyed working on the article with him that is going to be published in the New York Law Journal. I really appreciated that he took the time to sit down with me and go through my research, guiding me through the process. His door was always open if I had a question about the article or anything else.
My favorite part of the externship was attending closings. It was fascinating to see the different interactions between the parties, and I enjoyed assisting the attorneys and paralegals in the transactions. It was especially rewarding to see a real estate transaction occur from beginning to end. Another favorite part of my externship was writing the article with Adam. That experience was invaluable.
I would highly recommend this externship to any law student who wants to gain hands-on experience in real estate law. I think this is a great place to learn, and any assignment you are given will help you grow as a future attorney. Even if you don’t succeed at first, you will still learn from the experience, and that will only make you better in your career.
