“Adam takes on cases that people would consider un-winnable and makes them winnable.” – Nuri, Extern

My name is Nuri. I am a 2L at Hofstra Law School, and I’m currently a litigation extern. I have a background in real estate—I was a real estate agent before going to law school. When I saw Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. on Simplicity, I did some research and discovered that it’s one of the best law firms for real estate law in New York. That was a big part of why I decided to apply. I went through the interview process, got a callback, and here I am.

My day-to-day responsibilities typically start with assignments that are emailed to me by the attorneys. Many of these assignments focus on research, internal memo writing, and legal analysis. During the second week of my externship, I had the opportunity to write a motion to dismiss and a motion to join a necessary party—both of which were entirely new experiences for me. These tasks were incredibly interesting because they required me to draw on the skills I developed during my 1L year and apply them to practical research and legal writing.

Adam is great. He’s very generous with his time and has an open-door policy, which all the partners at the firm follow. If you ever have questions or need help understanding an assignment, they’re always open to having a conversation with you. Adam has also given me the opportunity to sit in on multiple hearings, both virtual and in-person. I’ve had the practical experience of sitting with him in his office while he preps clients and discusses legal strategy. I’m extremely appreciative of the time he’s invested in me.

As an attorney, Adam takes on cases that others might consider unwinnable and makes them winnable, which I find incredibly impressive. That’s one of the reasons I chose to extern at this firm—learning from someone who is willing to take on challenging cases and succeed is invaluable.

I would 100% recommend this externship. I’m very grateful for the opportunity and would advise anyone to take full advantage of their time here. Reach out to the attorneys, utilize the open-door policy, and ask as many questions as you can. Take on as many assignments as possible because your time here is what you make of it. If you want to learn and gain practical skills in law—especially real estate law—these are some of the best attorneys you’ll have access to. So, come prepared, bring a notepad, and make the most of the experience.
