“There’s a Closer Knit Feel Here–People Had More Time for Me.”
Hi my name is Isaac Diskind, I am a legal extern working with the litigation department at Adam Leitman Bailey P.C., I am in my second year of law school at Cardozo School of Law. Adam came to Cardozo for on campus interviews, I was looking through the different firms that were coming and I figured that this law firm seemed like a really great balance between a nice size firm but also not one that your going to get lost in amongst 100s of employees. So I interviewed, I applied, I got offered an interview, and I interviewed with Adam, came back for a second interview with Colin and I was offered the position.
I really felt like because there was a closer knit feel here people had more time for me, I did most of my work with an attorney in the Litigation department and he would sit me down when he had an assignment for me, talk me through the case, give me all the background, not just a quick do this for me, but really take the time to stay and talk the case out to me. I felt like my opinions really mattered to him and we would actually have a discussions as apposed than being talked at. I really just felt like I wanted to go into some kind of litigation just didn’t have any specific interest in one area, I found I really did enjoy working with real estate litigation. I like that the firm focuses on one area of litigation. You feel like you are becoming a master of the trade as apposed to being a jack-of-all-trades but a master in none of them. It was just a really great experience getting to feel like I was learning about one area of law as apposed to tiny bits and pieces that didn’t really make up one cohesive whole.
I feel like a got a lot of experience with the different issues that arise in litigation, both, as there a way to issues to real estate law and general litigation. I drafted memos of law on evidentiary issues for instance. At the same time I also had to deal with issues that specifically arise in Real Estate litigation like brokerage fees. I got experience besides from doing research but also writing various documents that are submitted to the courts such as answers and memos of law and statements of facts that I really felt gave me a broad view of litigation that happens here at Adam Leitman Bailey P.C.
I don’t think that at the start the everybody has this experience they don’t necessarily really know they are getting into when they work at somewhere like this so I feel like specifically the hands on role that the attorneys had here. I don’t think that everyone would be able to handle that. I feel like coming out of your second year of law school, I am only in the middle of my second year of law school you honestly do not have experience doing these types things but with the hands on help of the various attorneys here I was given the tools to be able to do that and do all the given tasks that were asked of me.
I am thankful for the experience with working here at Adam Leitman Bailey P.C., It’s really been fantastic. I definitely recommend working at Adam Leitman Bailey P.C. It was a really great experience; there were so some many different people to learn from here from so many different areas even within real estate law. I was working with an attorney who was a Manhattan assistant district attorney for eight years, he has such amazing experiences which I learned from. You have a master palette of litigators such as Jeffrey Metz; you have people like Adam Leitman Bailey who have been described as some of the most amazing litigators by Judges.
There are so many amazing people working here and I felt honored and privileged to work within and learn from these people.
