Litigation Summer Associate’s Experience Reinforces Her Decision to Pursue Law

Interviewer:
“Can you introduce yourself?”

Lauren:
“My name is Lauren, and I’m from Washington, D.C. I attend George Washington University Law School. I’m currently looking to go into general litigation work and hope to work at a law firm like Adam Leitman Bailey.”

Interviewer:
“Did you get the experience you wanted from your internship here?”

Lauren:
“Absolutely! I worked as a litigation summer associate, and I helped out the litigation department with research and writing. I got a lot of exposure to the condo and co-op litigation areas, as well as general litigation work.”

Interviewer:
“Can you tell us more about what you worked on?”

Lauren:
“I did a lot of research and writing for the attorneys. This included drafting memos and motions for submission to the board. It was a great experience in learning how to draft a motion from scratch.”

Interviewer:
“How did the attorneys support you during this process?”

Lauren:
“The attorneys were really great at giving direction. They were always approachable, and if I had any questions, they were more than happy to help and guide me.”

Interviewer:
“What did you enjoy most about your internship?”

Lauren:
“I really enjoyed drafting motions. One of the best parts was getting to write a motion on my own and actually file it with the court. That was such a great opportunity.”

Interviewer:
“Did you work directly with Adam?”

Lauren:
“Yes, I did. He would check in with us periodically, and I helped research an article he was working on. It was an amazing experience to work with him directly.”

Interviewer:
“What’s been the most memorable moment during your internship?”

Lauren:
“The most memorable moment for me was definitely writing my own motion and getting to file it with the court. It felt like such an accomplishment to take it from research to the actual filing.”

Interviewer:
“What would you say is the most important thing you’ve learned from this experience?”

Lauren:
“My research skills have improved exponentially. I learned how to dig deeper into case law and distinguish between cases. The detailed research has definitely improved my skill set.”

Interviewer:
“Was there anything you didn’t expect to experience?”

Lauren:
“I got to attend court several times, which was really interesting. It was amazing to see motions I researched being used in court, and I gained a lot of insight from being in those hearings. You don’t always get that in other internships.”

Interviewer:
“Do you have any advice for future interns?”

Lauren:
“I’d definitely recommend applying! It’s a great place to learn and develop your skills. Take every opportunity to dive in and get involved, and make sure to ask questions and learn from everyone around you.”

Interviewer:
“Would you say your experience here was positive?”

Lauren:
“Yes, absolutely. It’s been a really positive experience, and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to work here.”
