Gabrielle – Extern
My name is Gabrielle Hain, I’m a second-year law student at New York Law School. I’ve been with Adam Leitman Bailey PC since January as a legal extern in the litigation department.
The thing I enjoy most about Adam Leitman Bailey PC is seeing all of the complex legal issues that come out of real estate and being able to learn through research as opposed to just reading a textbook.
The thing that makes Adam Leitman Bailey a valuable place to work is getting to work with so many different attorneys and on a variety of different assignments. You really get to see the start of the case all the way through to the end and do some projects related to all those different aspects.
The day-to-day life at the firm as an extern was really fantastic because right from day one, they try to incorporate you and make you feel like you are a part of the firm. It’s also really great because the majority of the attorneys have started as externs, so they really understand the point you’re at in regards to the learning process. Everyone really tries to give you valuable assignments and great feedback. The culture of the firm has also been fantastic. Everyone was super friendly, and they really tried to include you right off the bat, which was really beneficial.
I think one of my proudest accomplishments while being at the firm is seeing the research I was doing and then getting to see the final product. I was able to see the case law, find the application, and then see how that turns into a motion through the attorneys.
What makes Adam Leitman Bailey PC unique for me is the fact that I really got to feel like an attorney while I was there. I was given such a variety of assignments where I really got to dive deep into the real estate law world and learn a lot of things that I didn’t even know existed.
What really sets the firm apart in my eyes is the fact that so many of the attorneys started in the exact same place I am. They’ve grown up with the firm and this is where they learned and were trained. So everyone is extremely dedicated to the practice and they understand what externs are going through, which makes it a much more meaningful experience.
Some advice I would give an incoming extern is to be open to new opportunities and to really put yourself out there. Reach out to as many attorneys as possible and really strive to get that feedback because that’s the best way you’re going to learn.
