“They Give You a Lot of Very Interesting Work When You’re Here.”

Interviewer:
“Can you introduce yourself?”

Josh Hill:
“Sure, my name is Josh Hill. I’m a second-year law student at Cardozo, going into my third year, and I’ve primarily been working in the litigation group at Adam Leitman Bailey.”

Interviewer:
“How did you hear about Adam Leitman Bailey and what was your interview process like?”

Josh Hill:
“I first heard about the firm through on-campus interviews at my law school. I had an initial informal interview with Adam, where he asked more personal questions to get to know me better and to see if I’d be a good fit for the firm. Then, I had a panel interview, which was more conventional, where I was asked about my past experiences and other standard questions. After that, I was able to meet Rachel, Colin, and David, and I’ve worked with them the most during my time here.”

Interviewer:
“What’s your experience been like so far working at the firm?”

Josh Hill:
“My experience has been great. I’ve been working mostly in litigation, doing a lot of writing memos and conducting legal research. I’ve also had some transactional assignments, like reviewing offering plans. I’m currently working with Adam on an article and doing legal research for private time. It’s been a fantastic experience overall.”

Interviewer:
“How has your legal writing improved since you started?”

Josh Hill:
“My writing has definitely improved. I came from an undergrad background where I did more general scholarly writing, but now I’m doing more persuasive writing in my memos, and I’ve improved a lot. My legal research has also gotten much faster, which is great. It’s been a really valuable experience.”

Interviewer:
“What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced here?”

Josh Hill:
“One of the biggest challenges is something you don’t really learn in law school – how to actually do legal work. You learn the doctrine, but it’s not until you start applying it that you really understand how to do it. For example, working with concepts I learned in evidence or property law and actually applying them in real cases has been a learning curve.”

Interviewer:
“What do you like most about your job?”

Josh Hill:
“What I like most is the substantive work I get to do. I know some of my friends at other firms spent their entire semester reviewing minutes, but I’ve been working on mortgage fraud and fraudulent transfer cases, and I’ve had really interesting, substantive assignments. I get a lot of real, hands-on experience, which is great.”

Interviewer:
“What do you like most about the firm?”

Josh Hill:
“I love how open the firm is. The attorneys here are so approachable. Adam is definitely hard on you, but he gives you a lot of great feedback. If you work hard, you really get a lot out of it. Also, if you ever have any trouble with assignments, you can go to any attorney in the office. They’re all willing to spend time with you to make sure you understand everything. That’s not something you get everywhere, and it really makes this firm special.”

Interviewer:
“Would you recommend working at Adam Leitman Bailey?”

Josh Hill:
“Definitely. The attorneys here are fantastic, and the firm’s open atmosphere really sets it apart from other places I’ve worked. You get to do meaningful work, learn a lot, and everyone is willing to help you grow.”
