Adam Leitman Bailey and the Family of Michael Berey were Honored and Presented with the Outstanding Contributions to Real Estate Publications Award

At the 150th Anniversary of the New York State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting on January 14, 2026, Adam Leitman Bailey and the family of Michael Berey were honored and presented with the Outstanding Contributions to Real Estate Publications Award for their work on Real Estate Titles: The Practice of Real Estate Law in New York.

It may be little known, but Adam and Mike poured an inordinate amount of time on this publication that has become the second-highest-selling book published by the New York State Bar Association in its 150-year history.

A note from Adam Leitman Bailey:

Even though Mike and I received no compensation for editing Real Estate Titles, we navigated this process with a code and thesis: everything we touched—every chapter written and edited — would be treated the same. We strove for perfection in everything we did.

Of course, we also credit the 28 authors of the book with the highest praise and thank them for their tremendous efforts. We understand that this book could never have been written without the wisdom and knowledge of the finest real estate attorneys in New York.

Mike Berey wrote to all of the authors on May 31, 2020: “I wish to send my thanks to all of the authors who participated in this monumental project. Certainly, for many, it took a great deal of time away from their professional and personal lives, hopefully at not too great a sacrifice to either. My wife survived Adam being a form of pseudo-spouse.”

Shortly before he passed away, Mike also wrote, “When they write my epitaph, I hope they write, ‘and he collaborated with Adam Leitman Bailey.’”

The only thing that makes me happier than receiving this award is being able to receive it hand in hand with Mike’s son, Justin, his daughter, Janine, and his granddaughter, Lola.

Real Estate Titles: The Practice of Real Estate Law in New York eBook is now free to all members of the New York State Bar Association and available for purchase here for non-members in print and electronic form.
