“This kind of opportunity was unreal.”

I live in New Milford, New Jersey. I am going to be a senior this year a Newt Milford High School, which is where Adam went to high school, and I’m 17 years old.

What was your role here at Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C.?

As a high school intern, I didn’t have as much, I don’t have as much background in actual law, real estate law, as the law school interns and the college interns, so pretty much I just helped paralegals, and attorneys would come to me with just projects that they obviously can do but things that basic enough that I could do and then save them time for projects that they need to work on, so pretty much helping out wherever I was needed.

What was it like working at Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C.?

It  was a really cool experience. It was something that I probably will never, as a high school student, to have this kind of opportunity it was just unreal. It doesn’t happen, so it was a really, really good experience. Everyone here was so nice and treating me as if I was an attorney or paralegal or just one of them, so it was an amazing experience.

Did you get to work with Adam Leitman Bailey directly?

I did a couple things with Adam. He spoke at a convention of the New York Association of Realty Managers, so I went with him and listened to his lecture. I also went to court with him once which is really interesting, but that was pretty much it because I did projects for a lot of the other attorneys.

What type of tasks did you perform?

Like I said, projects, sometimes it was just as simple as making copies, scanning things in running to the post office or whatever, but then there’s times where I’d be given a project, whether it be I did research for Liz or for Bill I did present kind of gathering evidence for like one of his cases so a lot of different stuff, interesting stuff, that I was surprised I was able to do it and I didn’t think I’d be able to, not having any background in law, but yeah.

What have you learned from working here?

I guess pretty much a lot about the law field. I mean on TV it’s just court. That’s all you see, but there’s so much that goes into just running a law firm and then a lot about like real estate law. It’s not as glamorous as criminal law, but that, it’s so interesting, and I guess just mostly what goes behind it.

What was the one thing or experience that will stand out in your mind that you gained from working here?

Well going to court was one of the most interesting or eye-opening things because I’ve never been to court and seen an actual court proceeding, so I thought that was kind of eye-opening. I’m not sure one thing that stands out but just getting to know everyone. I don’t know. It’s  just such a great experience. I’m just, I feel so lucky that I had this opportunity.

What was the best aspect of working at Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C.?

Probably the people. Everybody was just so welcoming, and they pretty much, people who I worked with, they trusted me, as if I was on their level, almost in a sense. [They] trusted me to help them out, and it just felt, it was nice to feel that way.
