“It is a dream come true” – Kelly Kim, 2023 Raymond ‘Hap’ Harrison Scholarship Winner

My name is Kelly Kim. I graduated from New Milford High School, and I was an intern here at Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. during the summer of 2022. It was an amazing experience because not only did I get to commute into the city and immerse myself in a different lifestyle, but I also had the opportunity to explore a whole new sector of my life that I wouldn’t have otherwise experienced.

I’m also incredibly fortunate to have been awarded the Raymond Scholarship, which has been a life-changing opportunity. This scholarship is going toward my college tuition, and it has opened so many doors for me. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to access the same opportunities, like being able to pay for my education and participate in all the clubs and experiences I’m excited to explore in college. I’m beyond grateful and thankful for this support.

This fall, I’ll be attending The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), where I’ll be dual majoring in English Secondary Education and Special Education. I’m also considering exploring other fields during college, like audiology or journalism, because I have a strong passion for writing and English, which aligns with my major.

With my studies, I’ll be earning teacher certifications in both English Secondary Education and Special Education. This means I’ll be qualified to teach English at the middle and high school levels as well as work with special needs students. I’m really passionate about these fields, and I’m excited to make a difference in both areas.

One of my biggest dreams is to teach abroad. A personal goal of mine is to return to South Korea, where my parents immigrated from, and teach English in rural areas. I want to work in the countryside, where children may not have access to educational opportunities like learning English. This dream is very personal to me because it’s a way for me to give back to my family and help others in a meaningful way.

I want to thank Adam not only for the incredible internship experience I had last year but also for the Raymond Scholarship. Being an intern was a dream come true and something I didn’t know how I’d accomplish, but the opportunity presented itself, and I’m so grateful for it. Thanks to Adam, I’m able to attend the college I’ve always wanted to and pursue my dreams while discovering new opportunities along the way.

I’m endlessly thankful and appreciative for everything. Thank you so much.
