“I got an even better experience than I could have hoped for.”
My name is Charlene Soleimani, and I am the marketing intern at Adam Leitman Bailey for Summer 2014.
Where are you from?
I’m from Great Neck, which is in Long Island, New York.
And what do you to study?
I’m studying corporate communications and marketing at Baruch College.
What are your goals career-wise?
Career-wise, I hope to be a lawyer in a couple of years, and I’m studying for my LSATs right now.
That’s great. Did you get the experience you wanted out of this internship?
I came to the internship expecting something different, but I got an even better experience than I would’ve hoped for that I wouldn’t have gotten any other time in my life. That is going to be very useful in the future.
What was your role at Adam Leitman Bailey?
So this summer at Adam Leitman Bailey, the marketing interns focused on the creation of a new website, which is supposed to be the website that of any website out there. We focus on the migration, where we migrated content from the old website to what the content that was going to be on the new website.
What was your experience like?
Okay, so the experience started as us being taught what to do from scratch. We weren’t sure what we are going to be doing, but after a while, we got the hang of it. We got training. We got tutorials. We had a lot of reading to do. I thought I wasn’t going to get it the first week. I was totally clueless. I knew what the end goal was, but I didn’t know what we were, how to get that end goal. So, we started by just learning a lot and reading a lot and just I learned so much from that, this whole process.
How did the firm help you prepare for the tasks that you did here, and what type of the tasks did you perform?
The firm helps a lot, especially Nicole. Nicole helped us anytime we had any questions we’d go to her. If she felt that a lot of the interns didn’t know a special topic, she got us a training. The training was really helpful. We received training from Nicole. We received training from Sheila. We received training from a couple firms that came in and showed us what to do. We read books. We watched videos on YouTube online, a lot of things.
What have you learned here?
I learned one of the most important things of our time, which is how to make a website because we all know how big the Internet is in this day and age. If at my next job someone asks me to build a website, I’d actually know what to do. I know how to handle WordPress. I know how to take content from their previous website and put it on their new website. I know the design, the layout, the difference between a mobile website, and the difference between an online website. why you need these two different things, Oh, like tons of things. Yeah, it was great.
What tasks did you enjoy the most?
So, while I love the marketing side of the website and how I learned so much, in the long run I do want to be a lawyer and one of the opportunities that I got, after speaking with Nicole and Adam, was they let me go to court. I went to court with Christopher Halligan, and I loved it.
What skills did you learn here at Adam Leitman Bailey that will be helpful to you in the future?
In the future, I know that, somewhere along the line, I’m going to either be creating a website, making a website more optimized, either for myself or for another boss I have, or a supervisor, and I know this is going to come in handy. In this day and age, everyone wants someone who will make their website look really good, and we know how to do.
Do you think this internship will help you further your career?
100%. Yes, this internship will definitely help me further my career not only with the connections and the people that I have met over here and the networking I’ve done, but also with the skills that I’ve taken. I came from knowing nothing in one field to being a total expert, so yes.
Do you have any comments for future interns or about working here in general?
For future interns, this is definitely a great environment to grow because it’s not one of those huge firms that they’ll hardly take notice of you. This is a type of firm where your own boss where Adam will be in direct contact with you every day. Nicole, if there was something that you didn’t know, she wouldn’t get mad at you. She teaches you from the beginning. She encourages questions.
Thank you for our meeting.
Thank you.
