Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. presents the Raymond Hap Harrison Scholarship to Rachel Ferguson
[Annabelle] Hello Rachel

[Adam] Hi Rachel

[Rachel] Hi Adam

[Annabelle] You’re sitting here today achieving this award what did you learn at the firm that has helped to shape you an the choices that you’re making now going into college

[Rachel] well I feel like this firm has really helped me learn that women can really achieve anything because there’s so many women at the firm and you don’t really take that into consideration until you go to other places and you’re like wow this is very male-dominated and now going into college where all these careers are so male-dominated I don’t have that fear that I used to have like oh my gosh all these males, I’m like no I’m a female I’ve been in firms that have lots of females and college doesn’t scare me anymore. all these male-dominated careers because I know that I can achieve greatness as well.

[Annabelle] And I have to agree with you as well I think some of the women at our form are very bold and courageous and they’re very empowering and they’re great role models. Tell us about your choices now. What are you looking to achieve through college I know you’ve made some new decisions.

[Rachel] Yes I did, I was choosing between 2 colleges I decided on queens college because I want to major in urban studies and then hopefully go to laws school after that and maybe do something in criminal law or public policy. So I’m kind of looking into that right now

[Annabelle] That sounds like a very bright future and tell us, anyone in the firm that particularly helped shape your goals or decisions to pursue a career in the legal industry.

[Rachel] Kind of the paralegal’s everything that they do and working closely with them you kind of see what an attorneys job, not exactly on attorneys job, kind of like the nitty-gritty of it, it kind of revolves around everything because marketing also o that nitty-gritty and paralegals do the nitty-gritty and it’s kind of like if you work with a paralegal is like really realistic and I think that really motivated me because it’s very particular and very reading based and writing based and I think it’s beautiful and that really motivated my passion for law because you really get to see how you’re helping people

[Annabelle] What skills do you think you can take from the firm and apply it to your day to day life in college

[Rachel] well surprisingly over these months I have been getting people have been telling me a lot that I’m very efficient, I’ve also had that compliments, but lately, its been like, Rachel you know how to get things done and our very on the go. I think I because that way working with ALB because I used to be efficient but now it’s like 1 2 3 bam, I’m done. So I think that skill of being efficient and having priorities and getting things done and working on deadlines and always coming on time. I was always there at ALB every single day. I think these skills will really help me in college.

[Annabelle] What would you say to someone else who we’re working with them that summer and obviously they want to win a scholarship. What advice can you give them

[Rachel] No matter who you are, what you look lie, your race, your gender, anything it is possible to be where you want to be always. With hard work and dedication.

[Anabelle] I believe that if you do work with people that inspire you it rubs off on you and that’s everything that you said is so true because it always been that way for me. I found working with great people ta the firm has inspired me to always try my best and go one step further and push me out o my comfort zone.

Rachel – the firm is a big group of support and it will always be that way.

Annabelle – Adam will be the first one to tell you that he will always be here for you and so will everyone at the firm in the net 4 years for you and forever.

Adam – that’s right, so you have a 4-year scholarship which I know for you meant a lot and means a lot and I know the money is one thing that’s going to help you go far, but also I’m very proud of seeing you the first day on the job which is almost a year ago to the person and woman you’ve become now and its because you enhanced and become the greatness you’ve striven to being and you’ve reached and now you’re going to go off into even greater things
The Raymond hap Harrison scholarship is named after my rack coach. I joined track in 8th grade and was the worst on the team and this guy coach hap we called him stuck by me. I don’t know why he paid attention to me even though I was the worst on the team and eventually, I never gave up and part of the reason is he didn’t just focus on who won the race he focused on how much better I got after each race and that was it. It was based on stats, my time, that day vs the last time I ran the week before
