Remote Notarization No Longer Allowed for Purchase and Refinance Closings
By Carly Clinton and Rosemary Liuzzo Mohamed
As of June 24th Governor Cuomo announced the end of NY’s State of Emergency which means the use of remote notarization is no longer effective. Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. previously used remote notarization to conduct refinance closings for a select group of lenders during the pandemic. Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. also used remote notarization for purchase transactions as long as the select lender allowed it. Since NY’s State of Emergency has ended all documents that require a notary must be done using the traditional method which requires verifying photo ID and signing the document in front of the notary.
The end of the use of remote notarization shows New York is moving back to traditional pre-pandemic closing methods. Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. has spacious conference rooms which allows for social distancing and a conformable refinance closing experience. Our attorneys and staff are trained to quickly and efficiently conduct refinance closings for our clients.
